Helping Starts At Home
Have you ever wondered why the world is so full of darkness? Do you want to see a better world? Well, you get there one person at a time. Since school break is just around the corner I thought I'd take a minute to talk about help beginning at home. So many people in our home may feel ignored or unloved.
Why should I help those in my home?
Helping those in your home and working together can foster a sense of community and strengthen the bonds of your family. Children and pets may feel ignored as we rush around doing and being everything we are supposed to be. Husbands and wives may feel as if they are invisible or all the work or chores have been dumped on them. Elderly parents may feel as if they are a burden. Roommates may feel resentful of each other and get along poorly. For these reasons, it's important to look at home to make a difference first.
How can I help those in my home?
Asking is a great first step or actively listening in everyday conversations to learn what your loved ones, friends, or roommates are struggling with. Here are some ideas to get you started though.
- Help your spouse with the dishes after a meal
- Help children with homework
- Give your roommate or spouse a free day to just relax
- Take your pet for a walk
- Start a family game or movie night
- Work on developing a project and chore list that includes everyone in your home at a level they can achieve.
- Really listen to a friend, spouse, or child's problems
- Spend time together doing things everyone enjoys
- Work to create an environment that fosters communication to avoid feelings of resentment in your home
- Try to consider everyone's feelings when making a decision
- Create traditions within your home. These can be theme days, sports, holiday traditions, seasonal traditions, etc...
These are just some ideas to get you started, but each home is different so find what works for you.
